No Reading!

I have a confession to make: the last book I read on my Kindle was Allegiant (and I didn't like it very much) because of Candy Crush.  Yes, that mindless and totally addicting game of swiping useless candies and jellies! So instead of reading books, I find myself swiping and swiping. I know, MUST.RESIST.THE.URGE.  If only it's easy, hahahaha.

Ender's Game

This is one of those books that I just happen to save on my Kindle for a rainy day which I ended up reading during one such day and then I got so hooked I spent more than half of the night reading it!  I just couldn't put down the book! I will leave it up to you to discover for yourself.  I am not so keen on watching the movie adaptation as I always end up disappointed.  As a mother, there are parts of the book that left me aghast but I know this is fiction, but I still can't imagine being a parent at this time.

Anyway, read on!

Write My Paper

I am currently taking up my Masters in Business Administration. I already took this course some 10 years ago but I was not able to finish it due to conflict with my then new employment.  All units that I was able to earn were not credited to me as a condition of my re-admission.  But that's okay as the curriculum is already different, and because I can't remember what I learned back then.

The reality of juggling motherhood, my career and my studies is something that was really overwhelming these past few months.  There were no sleepless nights, but there was a lot of cramming involved and a lot of stress! But I am already done with one semester, and I know better once classes resume.  I have to prepare a schedule and do all my deliverable on time.  But knowing that there are available options to write my paper cheap does a lot to my mind! If I absolutely have to,  I can check out their services.  But of course, nothing beats old fashioned time management and deleting the word procrastination from my vocabulary! Hahahaha! And for this coming semester, I know that I have learned my lessons and will know do my assignments on time.

Thirteen Reasons Why

This book is very light reading on a very serious topic.  The story telling is very nice, and I was literally holding my breath on some parts, and even shedding a tear or two for Hannah and Clay.  I hope teenagers get to read this and see the signs of people needing help, and be sure to remember that all our actions, however small, can have impact on other people's lives.

You may read the summary (and spoilers) here.

Home Accessories You Want But Never Get

Home accessories can be an essential feature for the fashionable and modern house, but most people struggle to decide between all of the different accessories they might want. Some of these accessories are practical and useful, and some of them are very difficult to find, but they are all attractive, and so it can be hard to choose between them. When you are looking for accessories, it is important to remember your budget, and also to match the items available with things that you already have in your home, such as couches and tables.

1. Fabrics and Furnishings
This is one of the most difficult areas of home accessories, with so many different types of fabrics that homeowners are often confused. It is easy to make mistakes when buying cloth and materials, and so colors and styles end up clashing. It is also common to buy fabrics which are not washable, or which look bad after a few spins in the washing machine. It is understandable that most people struggle to get the right cushions, cloths and throws for their home, and this might have put you off making choices, but it is not difficult once you know what you are looking for. Keep in mind the color scheme of your home, and try to find items which match this.

2.Glassware and China
Glassware is necessary for modern living, making cups, pots and even some saucepans, but it is also an object of desire. Many fashionable home stylists are now turning to 20th century Scandinavian glass to provide a touch of glamour to a room. This can be very expensive, and so choosing small pieces, or looking for cheaper versions of designer pieces, is one way that people can get what they want, but wouldn't be able to afford otherwise.

3) Teapots and Kitchenware

Along with other pieces of kitchenware, teapots have become very fashionable, and are often used as statement pieces in the cooking space. Things such as metal jelly moulds have proven to be very popular, and they can be hung around the room, or even from the ceiling. Teapots can also be placed in the living room, and some are planted with flowers, herbs or other home-garden type plants in order to create a talking-point.

4) Storage Units
Not just any cupboards, but specially designed pieces are very much the fashion. The design of your closet could mean the difference between having enough room, or having none. While some forms of storage are just too expensive to be useable, there are now some other varieties available from DIY sellers. These are usually available as modular kits, and come in very useful for the modern home owner.

5)Gazebos and Pergolas
These outdoor accessories can make an enormous difference in a garden. The gazebo was considered the height of Victorian fashion, and while it fell out of use for some years, it is popular again. It is possible to use pergolas with offset umbrellas to create a shaded area ideal for an outdoor living space, as well as create an attractive feature on its own. Gazebos and offset umbrella seating areas in a garden allow homeowners to have more fun with their garden, and can create a relaxing and pleasant area where homeowners can take pleasure in nature. It is easy to buy offset umbrellas from YescomUSA, so they can easily be used to create attractive garden settings.

Dan Brown's Inferno

You know what, it took me more than a week to read this book.   I didn't up stay up all night to finish it.  I had a Star Wars movie marathon on the same weekend that I had this book. And I have never felt the urge to Google any images, like I did in his previous books.  To sum it all up, I think he used the same formula that he used in Da Vinci code: telling us more about art and history, that the story itself.  For me, the story became the backdrop, instead of the other way around.  Anyway, I also did not like the ending because it was so unbelievable that they were all actually working together for the same goal, but it appears all the while that they were trying to thwart each other.  And I am from Manila, and I actually take no offense in his saying it as the gates of hell because it is true in some places here, the same way it is probably true in other densely populated metropolis in the world.  Anyway, I am just glad that I finished reading book, one less thing to get over and done with.

Why I Keep Re-Reading books

I am once again reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trigoly after I saw the movie being shown on cable.  I read it maybe 2 or 3 years ago and I have alreafy forgotten some details. I finished The Girl Who Played With Fire and is now reading The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest.  My daughter, she is 9, keeps on asking me why I keep reading again when I have already read them and I told her because I have forgotten some details, and reading them again is just like reading a brand new book.  And since i love the story reading it again is actually fun. Am I weird?

39 Clues

Ever since I downloaded games on my Kindle, the kids have been fighting over who gets to play first.  The moment I get home, they will raid my bag and get the kindle.  And then they asked me to leave it at home. So anyway, its been more than a week since I finished The Silver Linings Playbook and I have yet to start a new book because I was also hooked playing Free Cell and Spider Solitaire.  Then last night, while the kids were watching a movie on TV and I had the kindle to myself, I started reading 39 Clues that my sister downloaded a month back.  I was hooked! I finished the whole book and was almost done with the second when the kindle almost hit me in the face when I dropped it. I was sleepy! I also woke up at 6am just to read some more and ended up being late for work.  Too bad I had to leave the kindle at home, or I would be reading now as well.  This book reminds of the Percy Jackson series and I guess this one is enough to tide me over the weekend.  I still have to download the Vespers vs Cahills now, before I finish the first series, or I would have major withdrawal symptoms!

Kindle Fire Problems

My Kindle Fire cannot read .epub files! I just discover it yesterday when I saved some Meg Cabot books and I cant seem to find them! And since I don't have wifi access since last week, I can't download stuff to convert .epub to .mobi!  Arrgh, I just want to read, but now, I think I have to download games to so that I can do other stuff with it when I am not in the mood.  But will I still have time to read once my kids discover the games.  But since I cannot download Amazon Apps, I can't download any games too! Wahhhhh!!!!!

So to make a long sad story short, I convert the .epub file to .mobi one by one using a an online file converter and I can see them now.  Oh well, good thing I have some down time today. Let's see if I can download the free games I bought on my Amazon account online.  This is beginning to be too much work.!  I just wanna read :(

My Kindle Fire Experience

I have had the Kindle Fire for more than a week now and it is giving me a headache! Yes, a headache.  A little maybe because of the glare, but the headache is mostly caused by me, not knowing when to stop reading, ha ha ha. I have already read some 5 books, and is reading two more at the same time.  I have not finished my Financial management books, but I have finished 5 novels and have downloaded a lot of books too.  This is really addicting! And the fun part is, I can also browse and email while I am riding a bus with wifi.  As my friend Ehms would say, soshal! And I will bring this to Cambodia to email at home so need to lug a laptop around! Success!

Kindle for My Studies

I am just so happy to discover that I can use my Kindle Fire to read books on Financial Management and not just for reading! I really can use it for my studies.  I downloaded copied of two books that I can bring along with me, and not lug around the huge book I am reading. Yehey! And even when I am on vacation, I can still continue with my studying!

But I am happy to say that I have already somehow baptized my Kindle by finishing The Mistress of The Game.  I am now reading the Time Traveller's and have only downloaded the last John Greene book on my list.  But I swear not to red any other book except the Financial Management book for the mean time!a

I Finally Have A Kindle!

Thanks to the Universe and for everything else that conspired to give me my wishes, I am now the proud owner of a second-hand Kindle Fire! Even though my Kindle fund is now going to be my Cambodia fund! Because payment terms to my boss is so flexible, I will start paying her by the end of this month and whenever I have funds thereafter! See, I am telling you it was meant to be! I was really meant to own this Kindle!  Now, if I can only have the guts to show it to my husband (who thinks I am spending way too much already, ha ha ha)!

The Fault In Our Stars

I should really be studying, but look at what I'm doing! I'm reading John Green's books, and so far, this made me cry. Its the best one for me yet. I love Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace. This is a nice book. Have your kids read it please.

My favorite quote from the book:
“I can’t talk about our love story, so I will talk about math. I am not a mathematician, but I know this: There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There’s .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbound set. I want more numbers than I’m likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Walters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me forever within the numbered days, and I’m grateful”

Looking for Alaska

My sister who is turning 21 this year and a senior college student is a late bloomer when it comes to reading. When she was in high school and elementary, as far as I know, she has only read a handful of books.  She only maybe read 2 of my 7 Harry Potter books.  But since she is studying to be a journalist and she discovered that for one to be a great writer, she must read and read and read, she now reads anything, and everything (okay, mostly young adults and a spattering of classics).  So, when I ask her what she is reading, she would tell me try to read Divergent and I loved it.  So when I took a break from reading Fountainhead as its small font is making my head pound, she told me to look for John Greens book.  And i just finished Looking for Alaska last night. As a parent of a 14-year old boy,  I would recommend this book to him.  If only my son would discover the joy of reading! But that's another story.  Yes, it involves underage drinking, smoking and and sex, but I am confident enough that my son would understand that the book is not preaching that its okay to do all that.  He gets all those preaching from me all the time.  What I want him to understand is  that life happens and well, he better be a good person.  Okay, if my son will read, I will probably edit some parts, but very few, ha ha ha.

My Next Tattoo

After my first tattoo, I am thinking of getting my next one. I am very partial to these designs of 3 birds in flight but I have not yet decided whether to get it on my wrist, my shoulder blades or my upper back shoulder.  I got the idea after reading Divergent, but I think it is also apt for me because my 3 kids are now poised to fly.
This is nice, but I don't think I would like to have any more text, just the birds.
What do you think?

Atlas Shrugged

After reading Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, I cant help but look for her other books.  My office mate, the same one who made me read the first book, swears that this is her all time favorite book, and I MUST read it. I love the first chapter and I cant seem to put it down too, same with The Fountainhead.  I am so inlov with Howard Roark right now and forever.  Unfortunately, I have to work, blog, do Mommy chores and live, ha ha ha, otherwise this book would be done in a day.

Anyway, I will just let you know about it soon. Or maybe not.  "Who is John Galt.?"

Fountainhead!!!

Yes, there really should be exclamation points to the title because I cant imagine why I am only reading this book now! I think my office mate already tried to make me read it, as well as Atlas Shrugged, but I refused because I thought it was preachy.  For lack of something to read this week,  I asked her for a book and it was the only one on her desk.  And now, I cant put it down, even while my head is pounding due to headache (due to colds!).  And when I should be sleeping, I am reading! But  I don't this will be a waste of time because I am already in love with Howard Roark!

Bye now, as I need to read some more!
